The group announced their people’s veto effort in March after the Democratic-controlled Legislature and Gov. Janet Mills approved a two-year, $11.3 billion budget.
Maine drug enforcement agents had been called to multiple sites in Kennebunk and Wells where plastic bottles used to make methamphetamine had been found.
While critics of the measure said it would hamstring police, supporters said it frees up local and state police to focus on their work within their jurisdictions.
