| Maine education department drops LGBT video for kindergarteners following backlash | Curated for you byCP Editors | Good afternoon! It's Tuesday, May 24, and today's headlines include the Maine Department of Education removing an LGBT video aimed at kindergarteners from its website, a report revealing the National School Boards Association considered asking the White House to deploy the military to local meetings, and an interview with NBA superstar Jonathan Isaac. | The Maine Department of Education has removed a video introducing the concepts of sexual orientation and gender identity to kindergarten students from its website after it became the subject of an attack ad in the state's upcoming gubernatorial election. Last week, the Maine Republican Party released an ad alleging that Democratic Gov. Janet Mills spent $2.8 million in taxpayer dollars on "radical school lessons." The ad features a clip from a lesson aimed at kindergarten students. In the clip, teacher Kailina Mills described trans-identified individuals as people "the doctors made a mistake about when they were born." She suggested that "when a baby is born, the doctors will tell the parents what gender they think that baby is." After the teacher asserts that some people get older and "realize what the doctors said was not right," the ad cuts back to a narrator asking, "Is this really what our kids should be learning in kindergarten, instead of math, science and reading?" | The transgender lesson was part of a six-minute video titled "Freedom Holidays," part of the state's "Kindergarten MOOSE Module." Mills lamented the department's removal of the lesson, announcing on Facebook Friday that "the Maine Department of Education (MDOE) and Mills administration caved to pressure instead of standing up for some of the most vulnerable people, families, and students in Maine" by removing the video from the MOOSE Module. While the video kicked off as a celebration of America, it quickly devolved into a discussion on the LGBT movement, with the instructor declaring, "People in this country who are LGBT-plus, we’re not free." She acknowledged that kindergarten students "might have never heard that term" before outlining what each letter in the acronym stands for. Mills identified lesbians as "women who love other women," gays as "men who love other men," and bisexuals as "people who love both men and women." Read more. | P.S. | | Indiana pastor accused of taking virginity from teen on office floor | Pastor John Lowe II told his congregation at New Life Christian Church and World Outreach on Sunday that he committed adultery nearly two decades ago and asked for their forgiveness, explaining that he would step aside to face discipline from the church in accordance with its bylaws. While his apparent acceptance of responsibility initially drew applause from congregants, the mood swiftly changed when a woman and her husband went to the pulpit to address the crowd. The woman stated that what Lowe did was not just adultery but a crime because she was just 16 when he took her virginity in his office 27 years ago. The woman asserted, "I tried to tell someone. But all that was done was cover-up. No one ever came to me. No one ever got me counseling." Following the revelation, support for the pastor quickly waned, with one audience member shouting, "If you did it, you need to admit it." Lowe then confirmed to the crowd he began having sex with the victim when she was a teenager. Continue reading. |

I don't have to be perfect,’" he recalled. Isaac's new book, Why I stand, shares his journey to prioritizing God's opinion, even if it means facing scrutiny, and why the journey wasn't always smooth. "I've settled on the fact that I'm going to be willing to stand up and share my opinions the same way that someone else is standing up or kneeling for the national anthem to share theirs," he said. "It hasn't been the easiest thing to do. But I definitely have the right people around me. Again, I know what I'm standing for. I've been able to push through the weeds and keep moving," he explained. Continue reading. | | | | Thank you for spending part of your day with us.
