KISSEL | State news editor Madison Brooks isn't around to talk about what happened to her before she was killed, but prosecutors say they have enough evidence to proceed with rape-related charges against four men. Prosecutors say their case will rely on strong evidence in a way similar to how homicide cases are handled. Domestic violence cases can occasionally be tried, too, even if the victim doesn't want to testify. Andrea Gallo and James Finn take a look at the steep hill prosecutors must climb when a victim is not available to testify. The attorney general would like to see more controls over what kids can check out at libraries. Jeff Landry is concerned that children can obtain material that might be inappropriate for their age. A free speech group says Landry's move is a political stunt as he runs for governor this year. A triple-shooting at a Bogalusa birthday party last year left one dead. Now there have been five arrests. Ronie Taylor, 15, was shot and killed Dec. 9. Five juveniles were picked up Tuesday. Taylor was a high school band member and his death was among several that made last year a record year for the Washington Parish town. There were eight killings. Police and those at an animal shelter are perplexed by the death of a horse on Southern's campus. Someone rode the animal onto campus last night, then the horse collapsed and the rider ran away. Investigators hope surveillance video will help them figure out what happened and who is responsible. |
