Machinery Pete: Planter Prices Defy Gravity

Farmers are selected by access to land, period. That means they are born to the right parents or have very good luck. The next generation of farmers is often unseen since they're working another job until there's room for them to join. But like farmland, the supply of aspiring farmers is more than ample for the foreseeable future.

The Mississippi River and its tributaries could be back to normal by this spring thanks to around-the-clock dredging since last July, improved snowpack in areas such as Montana and precipitation through the midsection of the country.

Farmers who file and pay their taxes by March 1 are not required to pay estimated taxes on Jan. 15. However, with higher interest rates, this might not be the best idea. CPA Paul Neiffer explains.
