The search is on for a new LSU System president

BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer

As a national search begins for a new LSU System president, the Board of Supervisors can reflect on both the opportunities and the controversies during the tenure of outgoing President William Tate IV.

One question is whether the board will continue with the current setup — one leader who oversees the entire LSU system across the state as well as the flagship Baton Rouge campus — or return to the model last used in 2012 of a system president and a Baton Rouge chancellor.

Staff writer Patrick Wall also notes that some potential candidates are being discussed to replace Tate, who is headed to Rutgers University in New Jersey.

LSU is headed to the College World Series for the 20th time after defeating West Virginia 12-5 on Sunday.

The Tigers take on No. 3 Arkansas either Friday or Saturday, with the schedule coming out this morning.

Staff writer Koki Riley has the details.

And sports columnist Scott Rabalais says it's a bit strange that only two SEC teams are headed to Omaha.

It’s been more than two decades since Louisiana last approved pay raises for educators through the state’s school funding formula. The raises that have come are through one-time stipends or through taxes from local school districts.

Staff writer Elyse Carmosino writes that after voters rejected a constitutional amendment that included a mechanism to fund permanent teacher raises, the Legislature appears likely to pass one-time stipends for the third year in a row to keep teacher pay at its current level.
