How LSU's offense 'took the next step' in win over Central Michigan
Good morning, LSU fans. Do you feel a little more positive about the Tigers after their rout of Central Michigan over the weekend? After watching the game a second time Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if you do. LSU seemed to unlock another level in its offense with an up-tempo, pass-heavy approach. The opponent has to be taken into consideration, but the offense had stumbled past McNeese State a week ago, leaving plenty of concerns with the Southeastern Conference schedule fast approaching. They eased some of those against Central Michigan. In our film review, we broke down how LSU's offense "took the next step," as Ed Orgeron said, by playing at a faster pace and pushing the ball downfield. The Tigers still have areas where they need to improve, but that was a start. We also looked at how the freshmen affected the game. Boy, did they ever. From Deion Smith to Corey Kiner, the class accounted for 71.5% of LSU's total yards, one of our key stats. Then the defense continued to overmatch a smaller team at the line of scrimmage, which is exactly what you wanted to see after UCLA pushed LSU off the ball in the season opener. One concerning play happened, though. We broke it all down, and we took an initial look at Mississippi State, the first SEC foe this season. Hope you enjoy your day, Wilson Alexander |
