A large, cream-colored male cat, he was already an adult and had been roaming for who knew how long. I was not surprised when Blue Eyes tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), spread commonly by aggressive unneutered males through bite wounds. Since Blue Eyes was otherwise healthy and non-aggressive, we adopted him into our fur family. For seven years, Blue Eyes spent his life the same way as our other rescued strays, living in a climate-controlled cattery in the barn. His health remained stable, and life was simple and good for Blue Eyes. Once a day, I trekked to the barn to feed, clean, and water the cats.
