Also, saving Lil Wayne
By Bob WarrenAll about the bread: Dong Phuong is famous locally for its king cakes. And last week it was in the news due to a lawsuit it’s embroiled in. But our restaurant guy Ian McNulty says he thinks of something much simpler whenever he hears the name – the light, crispy, delicious bread the bakery cranks out. Taming Tammany traffic? Anyone who has spent time on a Saturday afternoon in St. Tammany Parish will tell you how frustrating the traffic congestion is. One of the worst offenders – the choked I-12 through the Covington and Mandeville areas – is being widened. Sara Pagones has an update on that $150 million project. Gambling growth: A lot has changed in the three decades since Louisiana made the big jump into legalized gambling. As Tyler Bridges reports, "Louisiana is chock-a-block with gambling now, and it's about to get more." Saving Lil Wayne: New Orleans police officer Kevin Balancier retired last week. You might not recognize the name, but at least one famous New Orleanian does. Balancier helped save Lil Wayne’s life after the star rapper shot himself as a boy, Ramon Vargas reports. Also in the news: We’re tracking stories this morning about a deadly shooting in Mid-City and a vehicle pulled from a canal that contained the bodies of a man, woman and child. Stay tuned for more on these two. All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW |
