Love Is a Dangerous Thing

"Be supple mentally. Strength does not lie in being firm and strong but in being pliable. The pliable tree stands in a gale. Gather the strength of a swift mind.

Life is strange, so many things happen unexpectedly, mere resistance will not solve any problem. One needs infinite pliability and a single heart.

Life is a razor’s edge and one has to walk on that path with exquisite care and with pliable wisdom.

Life is so rich, has so many treasures, we go to it with empty hearts; we do not know how to fill our hearts with the abundance of life. We are poor inwardly and when the riches are offered to us, we refuse. Love is a dangerous thing, it brings the only revolution that gives complete happiness. So few of us are capable of love, so few want love. We love on our own terms, making of love a marketable thing. We have the market mentality and love is not marketable, a give-and-take affair. It is a state of being in which all man’s problems are resolved. We go to the well with a thimble and so life becomes a tawdry affair, puny and small.

What a lovely place the earth could be, for there is so much beauty, so much glory, such imperishable loveliness. We are caught in pain and don’t care to get out of it, even when someone points a way out.

I don’t know, but one is aflame with love. There is an unquenchable flame. One has so much of it that one wants to give it to everyone and one does. It is like a strong flowing river, it nourishes and waters every town and village; it is polluted, the filth of man goes into it but the waters soon purify themselves and swiftly move on. Nothing can spoil love, for all things are dissolved in it—the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. It is the only thing that is its own eternity."

Excerpt taken from Happy Is the One Who Is Nothing

Dear Friends,

We invite you to read our most recent Annual Report, which highlights financial information for 2019-20 as well as important areas of the Foundation, Center, and School's activities.

It is abundantly evident that the pandemic has changed the way in which we live and interact with one another. At the KFA we have adapted to these changes in different ways. While we look forward to the time when we are able to safely resume in-person programs and activities, we remain committed to continuing the expansion of our online presence and dissemination activities. Our efforts towards increasing the vibrancy of our Center here in Ojai and establishing the new center in the Bay Area are in the spirit of looking forward to a future of coming together.

The Foundation maintains an extensive state of the art archive of the original works of Krishnamurti. We have a fast-growing, free collection of video and audio on the official Krishnamurti YouTube channel. Our online magazine titled The Immeasurable serves as an introduction to the teachings for the younger audience. We produce short videos based on excerpts from K’s public talks which have been very well received on social media.

Our publications department publishes new books every year and manages the rights to publishers all over the world. We also continue to build on our outreach activities in the US and Asia to increase the possibility for new people to come in contact with the teachings.

The Krishnamurti Center on the east-end campus in Ojai runs a Retreat Center (currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions) and has a Study Center for those who come to study the teachings. Online programs are organized every month which attract participants from different parts of the world. Click here to check our upcoming events.

For young adults, we also offer a unique opportunity to live, study, and work in the community at the Krishnamurti Center as part of our Residential Student Program. We are accepting applications for March 2021.

On behalf of the trustees and staff of the Foundation, I would like to extend my most sincere appreciation and gratitude towards each and every one of our donors and supporters for their vital role in furthering the work of the KFA for current and future generations.

Sincerely,

 Jaap Sluijter
Executive Director

The Trap of Pleasure & Entertainment
Online Program
February 15-19, 2021

In modern existence—especially since the digital age—access to entertainment and pleasure has become increasingly immediate and easy. More than ever, it is now considered normal to have entertainment at our fingertips and at all times. Is there anything wrong with this way of life?

J. Krishnamurti frequently warns about the dangers of this topic for the mind and for life itself. Whilst we are entertaining ourselves, is the house burning? Is a mind addicted to pleasure, incapable of facing truth? Do we see these dangers directly or does it all remain rather intellectual and casual a concern?
