Reservations now open for this beauty

A little more than a year after restoration work began at Sleeping Bear Inn, the long-shuttered historic lodge within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is now taking group reservations for 2024. The 150-year-old inn, which sits along Lake Michigan in the park’s Glen Haven Historic District, is currently booking “whole inn” rentals next year.

The stone (slag, really) — which comes in brilliant shades of blue with a tumbled, pockmarked surface — sticks out amidst the earth-toned rocks and sandy slurry typically found on the same northwest Lower Michigan shoreline. 

Babygirl thriving

It was a tough start for the first born calf of the Detroit Zoo's 5-year-old giraffe, Zara. The male bb was underweight and mom and bb were having trouble nursing. The calf didn't get the nutrition he needed during his first 12 hours of life! But good news, the zoo's animal care and veterinary teams stepped up and news from Detroit is that baby - now two weeks old - is thriving!
