The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning! It was a big news day yesterday. Let's get you all up to speed.

No more mask mandate — mostly

Gov. John Bel Edwards anounced Tuesday that he was dropping Louisiana's requirement to wear masks in public indoor places. But he did say some schools — the ones that aren't quaranting students who are exposed to COVID — still need to wear them.

Click here to see what that means for Baton Rouge-area schools. And check out this video replay of the governor announcing and explaining his decision.

Parent involvement coupons?

There's a lot of evidence that students do better when their parents are involved in their education. So Louisiana is trying to get more parents involved in parent-teacher conferences, school activities and the like.

One way? They're setting up an app that scores parents coupons if they check into those academies. It's designed to be a way to directly reward parents who get engaged.

NBA YoungBoy freed

NBA Youngboy, the chart-topping, scandal-plagued rapper from Baton Rouge, cleared the last legal hurdle keeping him in jail before his trial. He's now bound for Utah, where his lawyer and promoters have promised to build him an in-home recording studio and hire private security to keep him out of trouble.

Thanks for reading, and have a great afternoon.
