Good morning, everyone. Another Monday came and went for the LSU football program, with more bad news coming for a team that fell to 3-3 with a second consecutive setback Saturday night. On the way to a 42-21 loss to now-No. 11 Kentucky in Kroger Field, LSU took another major hit when star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte was lost for the season with an injury to his right ankle. Coach Ed Orgeron confirmed a report near the end of his weekly news conference Monday that Boutte suffered a season-ending injury in the Tigers' latest loss. Boutte, who set a Southeastern Conference record with 306 receiving yards in LSU's 2020 season finale against Ole Miss, was off to a strong start this season. He had established himself as the league's top receiver as well as one of the top pass-catchers in the entire FBS with 38 catches for 509 yards and nine touchdowns. Beat writer Wilson Alexander takes a look at who the LSU offense might look at to step up and take up some of the receiving slack with half the season left — which begins with Saturday's 11 a.m. contest against No. 20 Florida. Also, columnist Scott Rabalais writes that Orgeron's chair has become increasingly hot — and the sixth-year coach knows that it is and why it's not exactly a warm ember any longer. In more bad news, it looks like senior quarterback Myles Brennan may not be back from the broken bone in his left arm any time soon. Orgeron had been saying the target date for Brennan's return might be the open date before the Alabama game (Nov. 6), but backed off that Monday even though he said Brennan is "progressing as expected." "I don't know if Myles is going to be back," the coach said. "I really don't know if we're going to get him back at the open date like we thought we would." Also, tickets for Saturday's game with Florida are dropping, which isn't totally unexpected, and the Tigers game with Ole Miss on Oct. 23 in Oxford, Mississippi, has been picked up by CBS. The game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Until next time, Sheldon Mickles |
