The Getty acquired a groundbreaking pastel by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard depicting a woman breastfeeding. Dated to 1783, it apparently caused “a stir” at the time, as Karen Chernick notes in an illuminating article on the artwork and its history.Plus, Betty Tompkins is displaying new work at Gavlak that draws on #MeToo testimonies, and don’t miss three excellent films screening as part of Made in LA through June 30.
