| 3 surprising things from our 2025 Entrepreneur Report At the end of last year, we surveyed 1,362 real AppSumo entrepreneurs about their challenges in 2024 and goals in 2025. We wanted to know what makes them tick and what sets high-revenue ($500K+) and high-growth (25%+) businesses apart. Three learnings: |
| 1. Getting (and keeping) customers was the biggest challenge 47% of entrepreneurs said customer acquisition was their #1 challenge in 2024 But 55% spent little to no time on marketing. Compare to high-growth businesses, which were 14% more likely than the average to dedicate time to marketing. 💡 Block off focused time in your calendar for marketing. Build repeatable systems using templates, AI, and reliable tools. 2. Word of mouth/referrals was the #1 marketing channel Over half of participants said word-of-mouth was their top acquisition channel, including high-revenue + high-growth businesses. But only 11% prioritized keeping customers happy. 💡 Noah’s recommendation for 2025: “Focus on retention or customer love for your core business—improve that. Solves everything else.” 3. Entrepreneurs are doubling down on customer acquisition in 2025 In 2024, 35% of entrepreneurs said "getting more customers/clients" was their #1 priority. In 2025, that number has jumped to 49% (i.e., competing for attention will be even tougher). |
