| Good evening At last there is some good news ... Professor Neil Ferguson, the man who has been at the heart of crunching the Covid data since the start of the pandemic, can see the wood for the trees. So much so that he reckons by October we will, for the most part, be looking back at the worst of coronavirus and be able to look ahead at last. While he says we will need to live with the virus and that some people will continue to be seriously ill and die, the bulk of the danger will be behind us. His optimism comes from the latest figures, which show falling numbers of cases, despite most of the restrictions on our lives being removed. And he believes that the Euros, which saw thousands of people from all parts of the country getting together, may have actually helped by exposing people who have not been vaccinated to the virus and giving them some immunity. The Government is warning against getting carried away and jumping to conclusions based on a few days’ evidence, but good news has been hard to come by - so let’s take it while it’s there.
