Stoke the fire place, fluff your favorite pillow on the sofa or pull to the side of the highway and allow me tell you about my laundry lady. I swing by her fluff and fold three times a month to deliver my laundry. For one year now we have slowly become friends. Most of the time I can't understand a word she says. Her accent is so thick, with washers and dryers banging and clanging in the background I honestly couldn't tell you her name, although I’ve asked a million times. It’s funny though I don’t think she knows my name either. She is a spicy 4 foot 11 inch tornado filled with wit, verve and an unbelievable knack for giving me shit. Something I thoroughly enjoy. Bret your sock so dirty! You need stop walking around with out shoes. Bret your beard needs trim it shaggy. You wash your hands? Three weeks laundry? You roll around in dirt? Why you put food in your jean pocket? Next time I keep twenty dollar bill. My laundry lady says it like it is and that is so refreshing and authentic to me. Real speaks to me. After a year of opening laundry bag, after laundry bag, after laundry bag I began to notice a common theme. My socks are always packed together and neatly placed in a small corner of the bag. Shorts are packed with shorts. Pants with pants. The t-shirts are packed with other t-shirts. If there are two black t-shirts then they are folded and packed as a pair. I’m not even kidding the fold jobs are border line origami. The creases look like they were steam pressed. Everything is color coordinated. Anybody who can make my steaming pile of dirty laundry look like a rainbow is a legend and true artist. Well, That my friend is exactly what this woman is. As I release these new wines I want you to know they are inspired by craftsman, ordinary people and artists like my laundry lady. I make these wines with my heart. I want them to be the type of wine that would give you shit, if they could. I want them to be honest, real and authentic. I want them to make you happy when they arrive at your home. I hope all the tiny efforts come through in the end product. And even if the little things don’t shine through, I’ll keep doing them. Because that’s what love does As the holidays role around I hope you get after it and drink your entire wine club shipment. Sure you can age wine, but these bad boys are all ready to roll. Get crackin!! But, if for some unforeseen reason a bottle or two end up in the cellar, they will be right at home Happy Holidays and BOTTOMS UP! B THE WINESFALL 2016 SHIPMENT WILL INCLUDE: (4) 2014 WHITE HAWK VINEYARD SYRAH (2) 2015 SHADES OF YELLOW CHARDONNAY *** If you are interested in a custom shipment please refer to THE CHECKLIST at the bottom of this email. 2014 SPOT - WHITE HAWK VINEYARD SYRAH ($42.00) WINE CLUB PRICE ($35.70) Every year the Spot bottling is dedicated to my absolute favorite barrels in the cellar. In 2014 we had plenty of heat and sunshine, pushing the grapes to optimal ripeness which made rich, unctuous & ageable Syrah. I chose our White Hawk Vineyard Syrah to be SPOT for 2014 because although it is a colossal wine, it still maintains lively energy and dainty texture. A bottled oxymoron if you will. Well endowed w/ aromatics of black pepper, tobacco smoke, cola, anise, black and blue fruit, are all very present in this wine. It was aged in 4/500L French oak barrels for 19 months, 50% being new. It was racked 2 times before being bottled unfined and unfiltered on June 20, 2016. Bottle aged for 5 months before release. Decant for 1-3 hours before enjoying. In 2015 we had an incredibly hot spring, which scorched a good number of our flowering grape vines. The result was an uber small crop of Viognier, Roussanne, and Grenache Blanc. I made a measly 60 cases of our 2015 White Rhone which will make its wine club debut Spring 2017. 60 cases of White Rhone just isn't enough so I knew I had to get wild and make something else to boost our white program a bit. A different shade of yellow if you will. I've always had a love for Chardonnay and the vintage opened up an opportunity for me to play with it. I received a beautiful 1.8 tons of Chardonnay from the dusty, misty, wind swept Murmur vineyard in coastal Santa Maria. Picked extra early to ensure a nice level acidity was captured. This wine was barrel fermented in new/neutral French oak. Aged in (2) 500L barrels sur lie for 9 months. This wine has absurd acidity, but also a fat mid palette with lots of richness and texture. Imagin e a world-class pastry chef baking in the middle of a citrus grove. The rest is in the bottle. Don’t miss this beaut. ***Shades of Yellow was made very naturally, with very few inputs. Please keep it as close to cellar temperature as possible (55°-65° F) to ensure it doesn't throw a haze or sediment. Avoid storing it in refrigerator until you are ready to open it.
