🗞️ Letter from the Editor: Amids t Storm Babet, safety is paramount

Good afternoon Voornaam,

Our staff are busy tracking Storm Babet as it bears down on the eastern coast of Scotland. Even hours before the start of the red weather warning (at 6pm) they're sending back video, pictures and words depicting some wild wind and rain.

Around 10,000 people have lost power across Scotland so far - although many have had power restored already - and some 370 homes in Brechin have been evacuated over fears of imminent flooding.

We will be making sure our colleagues also get somewhere safe before the worst of the weather arrives, and we'll continue to track the storm and its impact through the evening and into tomorrow morning. You'll find all our coverage on scotsman.com and on our app.

It's worth noting that, if you're a print reader in the north east of the country, there is some chance you will not be able to get your printed edition tomorrow. The safety of our colleagues is paramount, and there will be some routes north which we've been advised will be too risky to attempt tonight.
