Let’s talk about kids and body odor.
Recently, I’ve had various conversations with some of my mom friends about our kids — ranging in age from 6 to 8 — and their body odor. All of a sudden, our kids kinda… stink. And it caught every single one of us by surprise.
One friend’s daughter started using deodorant, while others are just trying to wrap their brains about how their kindergarteners have BO. We all agree: We don’t remember this happening this young with us.
So, naturally, I want to understand more and help me and my friends out. But first, I want to get your questions. What are some things you want to know about BO and your kids? It can be anything from, Is it safe for my 1st grader to wear deodorant? to, How to talk about it with your kids without stigma and shame. Let me know your questions and we’ll get them answered. I will be the first to admit that I’m a yeller. I yell while I’m driving, and I yell at my kids. I just do. I’m a work in progress and am definitely working on curbing my instincts. And I know I’m not alone. I was talking to my colleague, senior reporter Catherine Pearson, herself a mom of two boys, and she agreed that she was losing it more with her kids these days. So she spoke to a few experts to help her (and me) stem the tide and get better at controlling ourselves around our kids. My favorite piece of advice? When you’re starting to lose it, cluck like a chicken. It’s absurd, and the absurdity of it will cut the tension and make everyone laugh. I know I can’t wait to start clucking all damn day. 😭 |
