Dear John, Legacy: The Ultimate Goal of the Coach Leader Legacy is teaching and transferring the habits that build character, integrity, and wisdom, which will ripple through eternity. Legacy is far more than passing on knowledge; it is about the everyday application of that knowledge in the form of habits that produce a life well-lived. Legacy is the reputation, character, integrity, and wisdom that are successfully transferred. This concept really hit home when I talked with my friend Clifton Jolley. Not long after my dad passed away, Dr. Jolley asked how I was doing. I said that Dad’s legacy was heavy on my shoulders.
He said, “Tom, your dad’s legacy is secure. There is nothing you can do to hurt it. The only legacy you have to worry about is the one you will leave.”
Dad equipped me with more than I could have ever hoped for, but my legacy is up to me. As Coach Leaders, our role is to equip our people with everything they need to build their own legacy, along with the ownership to do so. Legacy is not money; it’s living a life that creates money as a by-product of a life well-lived. Legacy is about transferring habits that build great relationships with family, friends, coworkers, customers, and God. Legacy is preparing those you love to grow through life’s most difficult challenges. As a Coach Leader your ultimate legacy is how you prepare those you lead and love to reach their fullest potential and empower and equip them to leave a legacy of their own that ripples through eternity. Legacy inspires legacy. You are a Coach Leader. Choose To Win! Tom P.s. Today’s message was taken from my book 10 Leadership Virtues for Disruptive Times.
