Request data migration from Sakai to Canvas |
Starting Spring 2024, all Duke* and DKU instructors can teach their courses on Canvas. If you previously taught a course on Sakai that you will be teaching again in Spring 2024, you may request course content be migrated from Sakai to Canvas for you. |
*Certain schools are transitioning to Canvas on a different timeline than the rest of the university so we recommend speaking with your local school support team about your school’s plan. |

In this interactive session, the Center for Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation will share concrete strategies and tools for cultivating an inclusive teaching and learning community in the classroom with regard to race and racial hierarchies. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a greater understanding of how to develop and utilize teaching practices and tools that enable all students to feel seen, heard, and understood and to think and act differently concerning the production and circulation of knowledge. |
Humanize Your Online Course with VoiceThread
|
Thursday, November 9 from 11 am to 12 pm |
In many discussion-board based courses, students feel isolated and disconnected from their instructors and classmates. In this workshop, educators will learn how to establish a social presence and connect with their students using VoiceThread to improve course satisfaction and student learning. We will cover all of the basic VoiceThread features, demonstrate how everything works in Canvas, showcase a variety of examples from actual courses, and have an open Q&A throughout the training. |

This series of workshops will be offered multiple times throughout the semester; see the Canvas Events page for additional dates and times. |

Bass Connections | Due November 6 |
Bass Connections is seeking proposals for year-long, team-based research projects that engage faculty, undergraduates, and graduate/professional students in the interdisciplinary exploration of complex societal challenges. Please see the project proposal guidelines. For questions, or to discuss project ideas, please contact director Laura Howes or a theme leader. |
Faculty, please share the following information with your undergraduate students: Data+ is a ten-week summer research experience that welcomes Duke undergraduates interested in exploring new data-driven approaches to interdisciplinary challenges. The proposal committee: |
- is especially interested in proposals that involve a partner from outside the academy, or a faculty member from a different discipline
- encourage proposals that involve previously untested ideas or un-analyzed datasets
- welcome proposals that will lead to creating tools that might be used in the classroom or that might facilitate community engagement with data and data-driven questions
- are continuing to include a special segment within Data+ 2024 called Climate+ for projects connecting data science to issues around climate change
