Join Duke Learning Innovation and invited guest Ashok Goel, Professor of Computer Science and Human-Centered Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology, along with Matt Hirschey, Director of the Center for Computational Thinking at Duke, for a discussion of the impacts, opportunities and challenges of AI in the realm of teaching, learning and educational research.

Thinking within and beyond the classroom, we will consider what the growth of AI will mean for courses and curricula, as well as for future workplaces and adult learning. We must prepare students during their time at Duke to use AI efficiently and effectively for career success. Faculty and staff working at Duke, and Duke alumni working around the world, will also need to become skilled in the use of AI to support their lifelong learning and professional growth, as part of keeping Duke in the forefront as an institution.

This practical workshop equips educators with ideas of how to create engaging and effective AI-integrated assignments for their classrooms. Participants will discover how AI can enhance learning experiences, foster critical thinking, help with individualized learning, and promote collaboration among students. We will also consider best practices for assessment and feedback on AI assignments. The session will also feature Jon Reifschneider from Pratt Engineering, who directs a Masters program dedicated to the use of AI in product development.
