#1 Cathay Pacific Pilots Flying High in California with $16.65M SettlementLos Angeles, CA - Airline workers in California are likely flying high with news that Cathay Pacific pilots will receive $16.65M to resolve a wage and hour class action lawsuit filed back in 2017. The pilots claimed the airline violated California’s labor laws relating to meal and rest periods, overtime and reserve duty pay – in some instances they weren’t even paid minimum wage. The settlement, however, tallies up to about three times as much as Cathay’s prior offer.

#4 BP Retirees Win Long-Fought ERISA Lawsuit -- Sort ofHouston, TX - On March 28, Judge George C. Hanks of the Southern District of Texas held that more than 7,000 North Slope Alaskan pipeline retirees who had participated in the BP America Retirement Plan (BP plan) were entitled to equitable relief under Section 502(a)(3) of ERISA. Guenther v. BP Retirement Accumulation Plan, a long-running ERISA lawsuit, alleges that BP "committed fraud or similarly inequitable conduct" in how it announced a pension formula change more than 30 years ago.
#5 Transgender Veterans Sue VA over Gender-Confirmation SurgeryWashington, DC - On April 15, an organization representing transgender veterans (Transgender American Veterans Association or “TAVA”) sued the Veterans Administration, over its failure to approve gender-affirming surgery at VA hospitals. The VA lawsuit argues that gender-confirmation surgery is medically necessary care and that the VA’s exclusion of this kind of care from the Veterans’ Medical Benefits Package violates:

#7 Delta Airlines Settles with Flight Attendants for $16MLos Angeles, CA - After almost a decade, Delta Airlines has reached an agreement with its flight attendants. The workers told a California federal judge that a nearly $16 million settlement, which will end their California Labor Code and Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) claims, should be approved because that amount will give California-based Delta flight attendants almost full reimbursement.
