SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Psalm 89:5-7 "And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints. For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him." ARCHIVE |

QUOTE OF THE DAY David O. Mckay "There are two purposes for which each chapel is constructed: first, that it might be the place where all may be trained in the ways of God, and second, that in it all might glorify our Father in heaven, who asks for nothing more of his children than that they might be men and women of such noble character as to come back into his presence" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: David O. McKay, p. 33). ARCHIVE |
TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY May 19 1838 - The Prophet Joseph Smith and his party continue their travel north from Far West until they reach the Grand River. They traveled up the Grand River for eighteen miles and arrived at Colonel Lyman Wight's home. Brother Wight lived at the foot of Tower Hill, named by the Prophet for "an old Nephite altar or tower that stood there." About half a mile away they chose a site for a city to be built on a hill called "Spring Hill." Click Here for More! |

BOOK: Studies in the Book of Mormon: Chapter 18:The Father an the Son To his hearers, Abinadi's words about God being simultaneously the "Father" and the "Son" (Mosiah 15:2) didn't present the anomaly it may to us. Those are technical terms they were familiar with based on the Nephites' and Lamanites' ancient Near Eastern covenant heritage. The word "father" designates an emperor while "son" identifies a vassal king. Click Here! |
