SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY 2 Nephi 31:9-10 "And again, it showeth unto the children of men the straitness of the path, and the narrowness of the gate, by which they should enter, he having set the example before them. And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father?" ARCHIVE |
QUOTE OF THE DAY Joseph F. Smith "An illustrious model of right living and noble fellowship was given to the world twenty centuries ago in Jesus Christ. His message was peace and good will. His law was founded on justice wisely exercised and righteousness intelligently applied. Light was His standard and truth His creed" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph F. Smith, p. 404). LIBRARY: Times of Turmoil 1: Evading Babylon: Chapter 25 "What do you mean?" she asked. "We've been coming to the temple on the last Wednesday of the month for the past ten years. TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY May 1 For more events in Church History, Click Here! 1846 - The original Nauvoo Temple is publicly dedicated by Elder Orson Hyde. Tickets were sold to the dedication for $1.00 to help pay the workers who had helped to finish the building. With the private dedication the previous evening, this dedication was more for the public than for Church purposes. Within five months, only a handful of Latter-day Saints remained in the City of Nauvoo to attempt to sell properties of the Saints. In September the mob took control of the City and the Temple, desecrating and defiling it. ARCHIVE |
