The film is about people’s relationship with money and how financial independence can fuel passion. Ian and Quan will travel the country meeting with people that are financially free as well as explore their own personal relationship with money.
Seeking Fire will be produced by Farpoint Films’ Chris Charney and executively produced by Kyle Bornais (both NSI Features First).
The documentary has been picked up by Super Channel and will be distributed by Farpoint Distribution.
The Return, directed, co-written and produced by BJ Verot (NSI Drama Prize), is available to stream on demand in the US and Canada starting today, August 10.
The thriller follows a brilliant college student who returns to his family home after the death of his father. He learns that the horrors from his childhood aren’t as dead and gone as he once thought.
BJ’s film has been celebrated across North America, winning the award for best feature at the H.P. Lovecraft Festival in Portland and making its Canadian premiere on Super Channel this past spring.

Through the program, JJ will spend four weeks shadowing a director on the fourth season of Citytv series Hudson & Rex. She will participate in production meetings, observe the casting process, participate in location and tech scouting and work with the director during their day-to-day interactions with key crew.
Reelworld selected JJ along with three other creators – Adrian Wallace, Nauzanin Knight and Mark Harnett. Each participant will receive an honorarium of $3,500.
A new comedy web series SHERLOCK@HOME, from Jaime Escallon-Buraglia and Christopher Sweeney (both NSI Totally Television), will premiere online and on TLN August 17. The pair co-created the series, with Jaime as director and Christopher as writer.
SHERLOCK@HOME follows a high-powered cop who quits his job to raise his infant son, only to grow bored and start solving neighbourhood mysteries on the side.
Although the show is primarily a web series, SHERLOCK@HOME will have a special television broadcast premiere on TLN on August 17. TLN is airing the prequel episode “Due Date.”
Seven projects in total were selected, with a commitment of over $3 million. Projects in this stream must demonstrate they are majority owned and controlled by Indigenous creators.
Singing Back the Buffalo – written and directed by Tasha Hubbard (NSI IndigiDocs), produced through Tasha’s production company Downstream Documentary Productions Inc.
Each project was assessed by an advisory committee comprised of Indigenous film professionals.
