Get a sneak peek at new CBC Kids show Detention Adventure from Joe Kicak, Ryan West, Karen Moore

Detention Adventure, a new CBC Kids digital original from Joe Kicak (NSI Drama Prize), Ryan West and Karen Moore (both NSI Features First), is coming soon to a device near you.

The show follows three straight-A students as they team up with the school troublemaker to find a hidden treasure beneath the detention room.

Keith Tomasek wins Canadian Podcast Award for his show The Inadequate Life

Keith Tomasek (NSI Drama Prize) recently won a Canadian Podcast Award for his podcast The Inadequate Life. The show was named outstanding cultural series.

Keith describes The Inadequate Life as a podcast about the creative process and the people whose lives depend on it. He talks to emerging and successful artists who share their insights into making their best work.

Adam Garnet Jones releases Fire Song as a novel

Feature film Fire Song, from Adam Garnet Jones (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program, NSI Storytellers, NSI Diverse TV Director) and Laura Milliken (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program), has been adapted into a new novel written by Adam.

The book is published by Annick Press and is available starting March 13. A launch event, hosted by Glad Day Bookshop in Toronto, follows on March 21.

Fire Song follows the turmoil of Shane, a gay Anishnaabe teenager struggling to support his family in the aftermath of his sister’s suicide. Determined to take care of his mother, he is torn between his responsibilities at home and the promise calling to him from the city.

The film was accepted to the Telefilm Canada Micro-Budget Production Program in 2014 after being nominated by NSI.

NSI grads release IPF trailers for web drama series funding program

Web series creators are working on their applications to the Independent Production Fund’s (IPF) Web Drama Series Program this month. The application process includes making a demo or trailer of the proposed series available online.
