Cory Quinn’s The Line begins production in Winnipeg

The Line, a new short film from producer Cory Quinn (NSI Drama Prize), began production this week in Winnipeg.

This ‘90s Hong Kong action-style flick is the successor to Vendetta which was the runner-up for best action short at the Action On Film Festival in 2016.

The Line tells the story of a captured gang enforcer who must fight his way out of rival territory and retrieve his organization’s property before the police raid.

NSI-nominated project The Warden from Roxann Whitebean and Trudy Stewart gets Telefilm Micro-Budget funding

The Warden, a web project from Roxann Whitebean (above left) and Trudy Stewart (both NSI IndigiDocs), is among the 18 finalists chosen for the 2017-18 edition of the Telefilm Canada Micro-Budget Production Program. The project was nominated by NSI – a partner of the program.

Homecoming from BJ Verot (NSI Drama Prize), Pass Through from April Johnson (NSI IndigiDocs), Tokens from Trinni Franke (NSI Features First) and Wharf Rats from Jason Arsenault (NSI Features First) also made the list. Congratulations to all.

The program supports emerging filmmakers and web-content creators seeking to produce their first feature-length film or web project, and emphasizes the use of digital platforms and developing the projects’ potential for distribution and audience engagement.

Previously, successful projects Werewolf from Ashley McKenzie and Nelson MacDonald (NSI Drama Prize), Fire Song from Adam Garnet Jones (NSI Storytellers, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) and Laura Milliken (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program), The Hollow Child from Jeremy Lutter (NSI Drama Prize) and Ben Rollo (Movie Central Script to Screen) and The Next Morning from Matt Sadowski (NSI Drama Prize) have been nominated by NSI for the program.

Amanda Strong, Bracken Hanuse Corlett get Canada Council New Chapter funding

New Chapter from Canada Council for the Arts is a special, one-time program created for the 150th anniversary of confederation.

Canada Council funded New Chapter as part of an historic re-investment in the arts. The selected projects showcase the diversity of artistic expression across the country and will create a lasting legacy for all Canadians.

Included in the grant winners list are projects from Amanda Strong and Bracken Hanuse Corlett (both NSI IndigiDocs).

New Chapter awarded $35 million across 200 projects.
