Sonya Ballantyne contributes to International Women’s Week cabaret Posted: 08 Mar 2017 01:41 PM PST Sonya Ballantyne (CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs) has written a monologue called Questions and Answers for an International Women’s Week cabaret. The piece will be performed by Melanee Deschambeault at an event this Saturday. The cabaret is hosted by Winnipeg’s Sarasvati Productions and features a diverse lineup of monologues by Canadian playwrights. Their goal is to honour women by telling their stories and explore multiple perspectives on the subject. The cabaret happens at the University of Winnipeg’s Asper Centre for Theatre and Film on March 11 at 4 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. Celebrate International Women’s Day with these award-winning female directed short films Posted: 08 Mar 2017 09:36 AM PST Above: Kristina Mileska, most recent winner for her directing skills in Asteroid Thanks to the generous support of Corus Entertainment, we present the Corus Fearless Female Director Award four times a year to the best female-directed films in the NSI Online Short Film Festival. To mark International Women’s Day, we’re giving a shout out to these talented, award-winning directors who’ve received the Corus Fearless Female Director Award (along with a link to their winning film, if available to watch online). Kristina Mileska – Asteroid (also above) Molly McGlynn – Given Your History Leah Johnston – Some Things Won’t Sleep Kate Yorga – When It Is Dark Athena Han – Home Ashley McKenzie – Stray, When You Sleep and Rhonda’s Party Emily Jenkins – The Path Lindsay MacKay – Clear Blue Jordan Canning – Seconds and Not Over Easy Juliette Gosselin and Florence Pelletier – My Black-Capped Angels Brianne Nord-Stewart – The Provider June Chua and Christine Alexiou – Travels With My Brother Call for films / submit by March 24Whether you’re a female director or not, we want your short films. We’re currently accepting film submissions for the NSI Online Short Film Festival through FilmFreeway until Friday, March 24, 2017. Films that meet award criteria are eligible for the $1,250 A&E Short Filmmakers Award, the $1,000 Brian Linehan Actors Award and the $1,000 Corus Fearless Female Director Award. These awards are presented four times a year. The $1,500 Blue Ant Media Documentary Award is presented twice a year. Read more about the awards. We accept films released after January 1, 2012. Your film must be less than 30 mins long.
