Indigenous Film Summit online kicks off August 24 Posted: 23 Aug 2020 02:20 PM PDT The third annual Indigenous Film Summit kicks off its online edition on August 24 at 11 a.m. CT and runs to August 27. Check out the schedule and watch events on the Indigenous Film Summit’s Facebook page. NSI is sponsoring Indigenizing Social Media in 60 Seconds or Less: a TikTok Discussion, on Monday August 24 at 1 p.m. CT., moderated by NSI program manager Kaya Wheeler. A number of NSI alumni are special guests, moderators and panelists including Alex Lazarowich, Steve Sxwithul’txw, Michael Auger, Petie Chalifioux, Amanda Strong (all NSI IndigiDocs), Ryan Cooper, Sonya Ballantyne, Sage (all CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs), Loretta Todd, Zoe Hopkins (both Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program), Melanie Hadley and Adeline Bird (both CBC New Indigenous Voices). The Indigenous Film Summit is a first of its kind event in Manitoba and is aimed at emerging and professional Indigenous directors, writers and producers. The goal is to provide attendees with an understanding of funding opportunities, documentary producing, feature film development, crowdfunding education, as well as an opportunity to network with top professionals in the industry. Founded by Indigenous Filmmakers Association members and NSI alumni Roger Boyer (CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs, NSI Storytellers), Justina Neepin and Charlene Moore (both CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs), this year’s summit team are Roger, Justina, Sarah Simpson-Yellowquill (NSI Indigenous programs and administrative assistant) and Joyce Delaronde.
