John Lewis: Good Trouble coming to Winnipeg’s Cinematheque with Q+A hosted by NSI CEO Joy Loewen Posted: 14 Aug 2020 01:59 PM PDT Winnipeg’s Cinematheque is set to screen John Lewis: Good Trouble starting August 19 with a live Skype interview afterwards with director Dawn Porter and producer Laura Michalchyshyn, hosted by NSI CEO Joy Loewen. Using interviews and rare archival footage, John Lewis: Good Trouble chronicles Lewis’ 60-plus years of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health-care reform and immigration. Using present-day interviews with Lewis, director Dawn Porter explores his childhood experiences, his inspiring family and his fateful meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1957. Dawn’s cinéma verité film also includes interviews with political leaders, colleagues like Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Upcoming screenings are scheduled on the following dates: Wednesday, August 19 at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 20 at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 23 at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 26 at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 27 at 6 p.m. Friday, August 28 at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 30 -at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m.Tickets are only available in advance on the Cinematheque website. Following the screenings from August 20 on there will be a special pre-recorded discussion between John Lewis and Oprah Winfrey, filmed last month.
