Do you believe there’s a story inside each of us?

At NSI, we do.

We’re passionate about nurturing storytellers because stories connect us all. They create paths of understanding and open doors to reconciliation with our neighbours.

It’s critical to support these storytellers and advance their careers so they can continue to fuel the creative industries that share these important stories. We feel the best way to do this is by providing professional development training.

Little things often make a big difference. And when students know there’s a community behind them, it motivates them in ways we can’t even explain.

As we enter the season of giving, please consider a donation to NSI as part of your charitable giving. Big or small, your gift will provide students with value-added essentials that make their training experience really special.

For as little as $10, you can help fund an item from the NSI Gift Guide. Things like a weekly bus pass, the cost of hiring a van for a student trip, food for a traditional feast or help hiring a mentor are all ways you can help.

Sonya Ballantyne and Sage receive Harold Greenberg, MFM short film funding

Broken Glass, a project from writer/director Sage and producer Sonya Ballantyne (both CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs), is one of four short film projects selected for the inaugural Manitoba Shorts Program from the Harold Greenberg Fund (HGF) in partnership with Manitoba Film & Music.

The HGF/Manitoba Shorts Program is designed to bolster emerging talent in Manitoba. It offers emerging filmmaking teams $20K each to make dramatic short films aimed at showcasing new creative visions and furthering their careers toward feature filmmaking.

In Broken Glass a young poet, confronted by his junky ex-lover, has to make a decision about their lives together.

Films from NSI alumni screen at Whistler Film Festival 2019

The films selected to Whistler Film Festival‘s 2019 edition have been unveiled and there are several projects from NSI alumni.

Additionally, this year’s Whistler Doc Lab participants include Frederick Kroetsch (NSI Business for Producers), Alicia Krawchuk (TELUS STORYHIVE) and Brian Hockenstein (TELUS STORYHIVE). Ken Hegan (NSI Features First) will participate in the Power Pitch boot camp and competition.

Whistler runs from December 4 to 8, 2019.
