Last week we hosted a webinar for potential applicants of the NSI IndigiDocs training program. Associate manager Kaya Wheeler was joined by program advisor Shane Belcourt and alumni Michele Mundy and Steve Sxwithul’txw, who shared tips and advice on applying.

We recorded the webinar, so even if you couldn’t make the live broadcast, you can still watch it above.

New for this edition of NSI IndigiDocs: Applicants no longer apply as a team. The course is now designed for individual filmmakers who have an idea for a 10-minute documentary film.

The course is delivered in two phases. Phase 1 (for all students) is a 12-day boot camp in Winnipeg. At the end of phase 1 all students will have a market-ready film proposal.

In phase 2, a jury chooses up to four students from phase 1 to go into production and receive a cash award of up to $16K and approximately $10K of in-kind services to make their film. Phase 2 students work in their own community for the majority of the time and are paired with an industry mentor to help with development and production. They also attend Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival.

Films made through the course have screened at festivals throughout Canada and internationally, and won many awards.
