NSI grads at 2019 imagineNATIVE industry events

imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival has announced participants for the 2019 APTN/imagineNATIVE web series pitch competition. Three of the four teams participating include NSI alumni.

Roxann Whitebean (NSI IndigiDocs) and Shian Whitebean with their project The Indian Day School Series

Mary Galloway (TELUS STORYHIVE) and Jessie Anthony with their coming-of age LGBTQ2 series Querencia

Darcy Waite (CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs) and Cynthia Murdock (CBC New Indigenous Voices) with their comedy DJ Burnt Bannock + the Métis Kid

imagineNATIVE also revealed a new business pilot for 2019: the Indigenous Feature Futures Forum (IFFF). This one-day event invites eight Indigenous-led dramatic feature film teams from Canada to present their in-development projects to high-profile executives for further development, financing, impact, acquire key partners, and to create lasting professional relationships.

Of the eight projects, six include NSI alumni:

2 Funerals, a Round Dance and a Wedding from writer Alexandra Lazarowich (NSI IndigiDocs)

We Got This from director/co-writer Shane Belcourt (NSI Totally Television, Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) and producer Michelle St. John (NSI IndigiDocs)

Running Home from writer/director Zoe Hopkins (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) and producers Paula Devonshire (NSI Features First, NSI Totally Televison) and Laura Milliken (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program)

Slash/Back from producer Daniel Bekerman (NSI Features First)

Wildhood from producer Gharrett Paon (NSI Features First)

Monkey Beach from writer/director Loretta Todd (Featuring Aboriginal Stories Program) and producer Jason James (NSI Totally Television)

imagineNATIVE Industry Days run from October 22 to 26.
