Sonja Bennett, Gemma Holdway receive Toronto Screenwriting Conference PSP fellowships

Congratulations to Gemma Holdway (NSI Totally Television) and Sonja Bennett (TELUS Optik Local) who have received 2019 Toronto Screenwriting Conference (TSC) fellowships through the Pacific Screenwriting Program (PSP).

The PSP Toronto Screenwriting Conference Fellowship is intended to encourage professional development and connects recipients with other industry professionals. The program is for mid-level writers in British Columbia. Sonja and Gemma get full conference registration, flights and three nights’ accommodation.

The Toronto Screenwriting Conference takes place May 4-5, 2019.

NSI grads selected for Hot Docs’ Doc Accelerator emerging filmmaker lab

Congratulations to the NSI grads chosen for Hot Docs’ Doc Accelerator emerging filmmaker lab, happening this spring alongside Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto. Adeline Bird (CBC New Indigenous Voices), Charlene Moore (CBC New Indigenous Voices, NSI IndigiDocs) and Trudy Stewart (NSI IndigiDocs) have made the cut.

Doc Accelerator fellows will participate in a bespoke private lab during the Hot Docs Festival where they’ll learn from industry experts and engage in hands-on workshops before participating in the festival’s full slate of industry programming. The program focuses on skills training and career advancement with a goal to foster an inclusive new generation of Canadian documentary filmmakers.

NSI Features First-developed Level 16 now available on iTunes, Google Play

NSI Features First-developed Level 16, written and directed by Danishka Esterhazy, is now available to stream on iTunes, Google Play, Cineplex Store, Bell, Shaw and Rogers.

Level 16 is a dystopian science-fiction thriller set in a strict boarding home for girls. Trapped in a sterile facility, 16-year-old Vivien (Katie Douglas) is taught the finer points of ‘feminine virtues’ by a Stepford-like headmistress (Sara Canning) and left to question what fate awaits her when she ages out of the institution. The project was developed through NSI Features First in 2006-07 by Stéphanie Chapelle and Danishka.

NSI Features First provides development training for writer/producer teams looking to produce their first or second feature film with strong commercial appeal. Over 20 feature films developed through the program have been produced since 1997.
