NSI Features First-developed SuperGrid opens theatrically in Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, December 14

The National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) congratulates the SuperGrid team on the film’s theatrical premiere in Toronto, Calgary and Ottawa this Friday, December 14.

SuperGrid was developed through the NSI Features First training program in 2016 by producer Hugh Patterson and writer Todd McCauley. NSI Features First alumna Trinni Franke is also a producer on the film.

The film screens in Toronto at the Carlton Cinema (for one night only), in Ottawa at the Mayfair Theatre and in Calgary at the Globe Cinema beginning December 14.

“NSI Features First continues to advance films that succeed on the festival circuit, with theatrical audiences, artistically and financially. SuperGrid is a great example of that,” said NSI CEO John Gill. “NSI is proud to have helped Hugh and Todd get SuperGrid to this stage.”

The film opens in an apocalyptic near-future, where mining conglomerates have turned Canada into a wasteland. A young smuggler is forced to convince his older brother to get back on the “grid” and help him deliver mysterious cargo. En route, they must contend with road pirates, rebel gangs, and each other, in this wildly entertaining ode to the post-apocalyptic sci-fi/action movies of the ’80s.

“After such a successful festival run, we’re hopeful that SuperGrid will be a hit with theatrical audiences too,” said Hugh and Todd. “We’re grateful for the support and mentorship we received from NSI while SuperGrid was in development – they provided the stepping stones that helped us get here.”

Production on SuperGrid took place in 2017 in and around Regina, Saskatchewan, where Hugh is based.

The film will also be available to stream on VOD platforms beginning December 18.
