BC, Alberta filmmakers: apply now for a $50K production grant from STORYHIVE documentary edition

The new TELUS STORYHIVE documentary edition is now open and accepting submissions.

Thirty short documentary projects by creators from British Columbia and Alberta will each receive production grants of $50K.

Accepted teams will work with mentors to produce a 15-20 minute documentary. Projects will be featured on select TELUS platforms in summer 2019.

Deadline for submissions is July 3, 2018. Find out more and apply.

STORYHIVE is a community-powered funding program that allows members of the community to influence which projects receive funding from TELUS. NSI delivers mentoring through the STORYHIVE mentorship program in partnership with NSI.

Get funding to complete your film from NFB’s Filmmaker Assistance Program

Are you an emerging independent filmmaker looking for financial support to complete your film?

The National Film Board can help. Their mandate is to produce bold and distinctive social-issue documentaries, auteur animation and innovative digital content with a unique Canadian perspective.

The NFB invites all independent filmmakers from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (not currently enrolled in film school and with fewer than three professional film/video projects under their belts) to apply to the Filmmaker Assistance Program (FAP) [PDF].

Deadline is June 25, 2018.

Beth is 31 and, since yesterday, single. She lives alone with an old cat found in her alleyway and barely makes a living working at her sister’s café.

Call for films / submit by June 4

We’re accepting films through FilmFreeway until Monday, June 4, 2018.

If your film is programmed, you have a chance of winning the A&E Short Filmmakers Award for best film. We accept films released after January 1, 2013.

All NSI Online Short Film Festival winners receive a complimentary Friend membership for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and are qualified to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award (if award criteria are met).

Your film must be less than 30 mins long. Drama, comedy, animation, documentary, sci-fi, horror, music video and experimental are all eligible and must be made by a Canadian writer, director or producer.
