There was more news Wednesday on the medical condition of LSU safety Greg Brooks. It's perhaps not as bad as it could be, but it's certainly very serious. The Brooks family released information on the rare type of brain cancer Greg is suffering from. The good news, if one can say that, is that the cancer doesn't appear to have spread to other parts of his body. Still, he has a long, difficult road ahead. Here is a little more information about Brooks' condition. Once again, thoughts and prayers for Brooks and his family. LSU has set up a page to collect contributions to the Greg Brooks Victory fund. Here is a link to that page. On to happier topics. Our Reed Darcey dropped a feature Wednesday on women's basketball newcomer Hailey Van Lith that he's been working on for weeks. It's an excellent and insightful profile of an intense, driven, spiritual young woman. Not many places besides LSU would you have a big media contingent show up in the middle of football season for a baseball news conference. But a bunch of us were at Alex Box Stadium today to meet with coach Jay Johnson and two of his key newcomers, Mac Bingham and Luke Holman, to talk about the start of fall practice Thursday. By the way, slugger Tommy White will be held out of fall practice because he's recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. AP college football writer Ralph Russo is in with his picks for this weekend. He picks the Tigers in Saturday's LSU-Missouri game (11 a.m., ESPN). That's the only hint you're getting. The SEC hit Ole Miss with two fines totaling $175,000 Wednesday stemming from fan behavior (or rather misbehavior) at Saturday's LSU game. The school could also face a potentially even stiffer financial hit as the SEC threatened its in-game alcohol sales if it doesn't get a better handle on things. Jayden Daniels is having a Heisman Trophy-worthy season, but Heisman voters like voting for the best player from the best team. See how LSU's latest loss delt a blow to Daniels' Heisman odds. Finally, our Sheldon Mickles take a look at the top games for this coming Saturday. Hard to believe we're already in the first weekend of October. Thanks for reading and subscribing, folks.
