Good evening

There is no doubt that the Government has had to tread a fine line in keeping us safe and trying to ensure the economy gets a fighting chance to recover.

The health experts would prefer lockdown had been kept in place for longer, while business leaders thought it went on too long.

And for several months (almost), the entire country behaved with the kind of stiff upper lip we thought no longer existed and stuck to the rules.

Now, with the relaxation of guidelines and the move to one metre-plus social distancing, it seems that all bets are off.

Perhaps the hot weather hadn’t helped, but the scenes on the beach at Bournemouth and outside Anfield after Liverpool’s Premier League victory were worrying, to say the very least.

The last thing we need after lockdown is to run headlong into a second wave which overwhelms the NHS and undoes all the hard work we have done.

Maybe this weekend’s wet weather will literally take the heat out of our desire to head to public places in huge numbers. Let’s hope so or we may well be back to square one.

Get in touch with me on email at [email protected].uk if you have anything you want to comment on.
And when you get a minute please fill in this short survey on coming out of lockdown

Take care

Gillian
