Session Date: Tomorrow, July 26, 2016 Starting Time: 1:00 p.m. EDT Duration: 90 minutes Price: $89.99 | | About the live critique: | All registrants are invited to submit their query letter to be discussed during the webinar. If you would like to be included, please send your query letter according to the critique submission instructions to [email protected] BEFORE 5:00 P.M. MONDAY, JULY 25, 2016. | About the webinar: | No writer loves the query process. It's fraught with tension and hope and fear. You send your letters off into space in the hopes of making your dreams come true. You've likely studied the structure of how to format the letter and think you have it down, but...why do so many people's advice seem to conflict with each other? Is there a right or wrong way to query? And once it lands on an agent's desk: what is it that makes them say yes when so often they say no? In this live webinar, Jim McCarthy, Vice President and Literary Agent at Dystel & Goderich Literary Management dives directly into the submitted queries from you, the participants, and shares what makes a project stand out to him, what query rules are hard and fast, and what rules can be bent. Not every query will receive a live critique, but this is your chance to hear what's going through the head of an agent as he reads an unsolicited query. Having spent 17 years reading the slush pile and still loving it, finding the majority of his clients that way, Jim will offer honest, hopeful, helpful criticism, thoughts, and feelings to help you understand what it is that really grabs attention...in the right way. | What you'll learn:
• | The absolute dos and don'ts of query writing | • | How to stand out for the right reasons | • | Whether agents are really reading their own slush | • | How long you have to catch an agent's attention | • | What can make a query an automatic no or a definite yes |
| | Please Note: Even if you can't attend the live webinar, registering for this live version will enable you to receive the On Demand webinar and a personal critique of your material. Purchasing the On Demand version after the live event will not include a critique. |
