| Dear reader,
There is more armed conflict across the world today than at any time since the second world war. We have witnessed the horrific impact of conflict and war across the world, including in Gaza, Lebanon, the occupied West Bank, Ukraine and Sudan.
War changes everything.
Many thousands have been killed and millions more injured and traumatised as a result of the violence. Their world turned upside down, they have been displaced from their homes and communities, trying to survive with limited access to food and water, shelter and medicine.
That’s why when it came to choosing this year’s charity appeal, it was simple: we must support victims of war and conflict. We are raising money for three charities: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and War Child, which do frontline work in war zones across the world – including in Gaza and Ukraine – and Parallel Histories, which helps schools teach sensitive and controversial histories such as those of Northern Ireland, Israel and Palestine.
More than 11,300 of you have donated so far to this year’s Guardian and Observer charity appeal, raising over £1.25m. Thank you. |

| Hundreds of donors have expressed their sorrow and anger at the suffering of countless innocent adults and children. Many praised the vital work our partner charities are doing to support the families living in war. As one donor said “I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like for people, and children in particular to live in the midst of war … I pray this small donation (I wish it was more) will add another drop to the bucket of compassion and transformation.”
Until midnight on Sunday 12 January, we will continue to raise funds for our three charity partners to support civilians living in conflict.
Whether you can spare a little or a lot, please consider giving to our charity appeal using the link below. Your generosity could make a world of difference.
Thank you.
