Hello everyone,
I was delighted to be invited to lead an important conversation for this year’s Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation takes many forms and one of the more challenging is the repatriation of First Nations peoples’ ancestral remains and cultural artifacts, taken from their communities over many years by museums and private collectors.
In The Journey Home – Reconciliation Through Repatriation, a panel of experts in museum curation and heritage join me to explain the context around the removal of ancestral remains and sacred objects. We ask why they were taken, who holds them and where, and we explore the sensitive processes involved in returning them to their communities.
It’s a fascinating conversation that provides insight into the important role their return can play in promoting healing, truth telling and reconciliation.
