Jeff Landry will call on the Legislature to expand the state's methods of execution in a special session scheduled for late February, according to people familiar with his goals. The Republican has long voiced support for resuming executions through means other than lethal injection drugs, which are in short supply nationwide. If successful, the effort could usher in Louisiana’s first execution since 2010. At least 283 people died from an overdose last year in East Baton Rouge Parish, marking the second year in a row there has been a decrease in fatal overdoses — 296 were reported in 2022. Still, data shows the city is still grappling with a sharp increase in fatal overdoses since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the market for a more than slightly used police car?
