"Today democracy has prevailed because the Constitution has been upheld", says Mariano Rajoy

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, in an institutional declaration made at Moncloa Palace, underlined that "the illegal referendum that sought to abolish the Spanish Constitution did not take place and was averted based on valid legal grounds". He also announced that he will call all the parliamentary forces to reflect together on Spain's future and that he will appear in the Lower House of Parliament.

President of the Government receives President of the Business Owners Forum

The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, received the President of the Business Owners Forum [Crculo de Empresarios], Javier Vega de Seoane, and its General Secretary, Jess Sainz. The aim of the meeting was to see first-hand the proposals made by the Forum, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and, taking advantage of this, it has published a series of documents that contain the main contributions based on the cornerstones on which the economic and political future of Spain should be founded.

Mariano Rajoy and Donald Trump agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation to boost growth and fight terrorism

After meeting with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in the White House, the President of the Government of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, advocated boosting trade and investment between the two countries and improving police, military and intelligence coordination to counter the threat of terrorism.

Government claims that State's obligation is to prevent referendum being held on 1 October

The government insisted that it will firmly uphold the law and ensure that it is upheld while maintaining civil order. On another note, the Council of Ministers decided to appeal three regional Catalan laws and to not extradite the journalist Hamza Yalin to Turkey.
