Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Kristen Welker

Happy news this week for NBC News chief White House correspondent Kristen Welker and her husband John Hughes, who announced Friday on the Today Show that after several years struggling with infertility, they were expecting a baby girl in June with the help of a surrogate.

In an emotional segment dedicated to sharing their journey with others, Welker revealed that while she loves her job as a journalist, one of her dreams has always been to be a mother.

But after unsuccessfully attempting in vitro fertilization, Welker's doctor told her that her uterine lining was too thin to carry a child, so they opted for surrogacy.

Welker also published a letter to her daughter, writing, “I cannot wait until the moment I hold you for the very first time — it is all I have dreamed about for years.”

The letter honestly discusses the couple’s infertility struggles, while highlighting how excited they are to meet their dream come true. "My sweet baby girl, your daddy and I haven’t met you yet, but we have loved you forever,” she wrote in the heartfelt letter.

MEDIA LOSER:
Grant Stinchfield

News programs criticize their competitors all the time; that's part of the business and the televised opponents can help hold each other accountable by highlighting biased or inaccurate coverage. What Newsmax's Grant Stinchfield did on Thursday, however, was peddling conspiracy theories along with a dose of racism.

It all tied into Stinchfield's "theory" on why Fox News cancelled Lou Dobbs Tonight. The Fox Business program got high ratings but was nonetheless kicked to the curb in February, following a string of controversies including a $2.7 billion lawsuit filed by Smartmatic accusing Dobbs and other Fox personalities of pushing baseless claims about the 2020 election.

“I have come to the conclusion that Fox News no longer supports President Trump’s America First principles, which is why they couldn’t stand Lou Dobbs on their air," declared Stinchfield. Dobbs, he noted, was a "champion" of Trump," so maybe the cancellation of his show was "more sinister" -- "Maybe it’s about China.”

Among Stinchfield's "evidence": the fact that Rupert Murdoch’s wife is “a mainland Chinese." Yes, that's how he phrased it.

'Silence is golden'

...a lesson that several of the faces on your television screens the past few days should have learned. For your amusement and disdain, here are some people who probably would have been better off if they just said nothing at all:

Greg Gutfeld attacked his own network's Covid-19 protocols as just "legal B.S.' -- you know, the safety measures they put in place after one of his co-hosts, Juan Wiliams (a cancer survivor), got Covid?

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) attacked Biden for being "to the left of Lenin" and a "Wokerista," which appears to be a word he made up.

Laura Ingraham had an awkward segment where she listened to "We Are the World" while mocking world leaders attending a climate conference.

Tucker Carlson claimed that the Democratic Party's platform was now to allow children to stab each other, in response to the Ma'Khia Bryant shooting.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) is taking broadsides from progressives on Twitter after a clip of her soliciting anti-union talking points from business leaders surfaced.

Joy Behar apologized after repeatedly misgendering Caitlyn Jenner on Friday’s The View, using the incorrect pronouns in a segment covering her bid for Governor of California.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-OH) appeared on a radio show hosted by a woman who's peddled anti-vaccine conspiracies to add his own fuel to the fire, commenting that he was "highly suspicious" of the "big push to make sure everyone gets a vaccine."

And, last and possibly also least, there's this idiot who bragged about storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 to a woman who matched with him on Bumble. "We are not a match," she wrote at the conclusion of their online chat. "I suppose not," he conceded. She took screenshots and turned him in to the police.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt." (Apocryphally attributed to Mark Twain)

Take Your Kid to Work Day, While You Work-From-Home

Thursday night, in honor of “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day,” Jimmy Kimmel aired a hilarious supercut showing children hijacking their parents’ Zoom meetings and broadcasts.

“This day usually is a great opportunity for children to learn why mommy and daddy are so sad all the time, but since the pandemic, lots of parents aren’t going into work,” Kimmel cracked. “They’re working remotely, and to honor their struggle, tonight we put together a little montage of moms and dads trying to work from home.”

Watch and enjoy here.
