The Hidden History of Slavery and Eugenics in California | Thursday, December 10 | 3:30 pm
Race is a central feature in our national origin story. It also plays a critical role in the founding of the Golden State. In this workshop we will delve into that history and then follow the trajectory of these ideas into present time. We'll have three main points of entry into this discussion with educators: the Naturalization Act of 1790, the 1849 California Constitutional Convention, and how deepening historical understanding about how racial ideology functions is critical in this current moment.
