| Editor's note: Most of us have learned to strive to be fiercely independent. As a result, we can have a hard time asking for help, especially when we need it most. Learning to ask for help is different from learning to receive. "Asking" is more proactive than "receiving"; it requires willing and conscious surrender to another. That in itself is a form of kindness because it affirms that the other person has gifts. Help is all around us, if we choose to see and ask for it. | |
