EditorEditor's note: The ability to see and appreciate the common humanity in all of us is a gift. When someone can only see groups of people as others, our response cannot be to judge them but to recognize the suffering that possibly underlies that sense of otherness. I've come to recognize that often times those who hold themselves apart sometimes need our compassion and empathy even more.
