Reports of a new and deadly canine virus made headlines on this day in 1979, with authorities warning Canberra residents to be aware of the dangers and on the look out for symptoms. According to one Canberra veterinarian, the disease had no known cure and the origin was unknown. Dogs exposed to the virus could die or become extremely ill for up to three months. The disease had appeared in at least one boarding kennel, however, more than 200 dogs had been vaccinated against the killer disease.  READ MORE
