Thanks for starting the holiday week with us. Here are some of the top stories from the weekend.

Another day. Another homicide. Or so it seems.

We had another homicide in Baton Rouge on Sunday. So far this year, we've far exceeded the number of killings in the city-parish, and there are still nearly two weeks left in the year.

The latest killing (as of the time I wrote this Sunday night) was on Ardenwood Drive. Lea Skene has details here.

No-bid contracts

The law allows governments to enter into some deals without requiring competitive bidding, but questions are beginning to pop up in East Baton Rouge as a lot of pacts go to the same firms. Terry Jones, in this story from City Hall, looks at who has questions, and why.

'They're here in spirit'

A Livingston Parish sheriff's deputy wasn't around for this year's Christmas giveaways; she died of COVID-19 during the year. However, her family took up her cause and helped deliver presents with other law officers. They spoke to our Jackie DeRobertis about their labor of love.
