A front page story on this day in 1971 told the tale of a desperate young man who ran into a pub on King Street, placed a typewriter on the bar and said: "Give me a beer, quick. I've got a feeling it's going to be my last for a long time." His urgency was quickly apparent as he was followed into the pub by a staff member from the stationery store from which he'd just stolen the typewriter. READ MORE
